Shelburne Farms Shelburne Farms on the shores of Lake Champlain is a 1400-acre working farm and National Historic Landmark originally laid out in 1886 on 3800 acres by Frederick Law Olmstead as a model agricultural estate. Driving Tours & Covered Bridges 

They use full-sized replicas of historic vessels to teach the history and archeology of Lake Champlain. Hands-on programs for kids and many special events during the season.
The country’s smallest state capital may just be the most charming. Vermont’s historic capital building is open to the public and free. You’ll find several nice bookshops and many restaurants including three associated with the New England Culinary Institute.
The 270-mile footpath follows the main ridge of the Green Mountains the length of Vermont from Massachusetts to Canada. Built between 1910 & 1930, it’s the oldest long-distance hiking trail in the country. There are 175 miles on its 82 side trails and it was the first leg of the Appalachian Trail. Guides and maps available from the Green Mountain Club which maintains the trail and also schedules organized hikes.
